What this recall covers

The defect
Heartland Recreational Vehicles (Heartland) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Sundance travel trailers, model 322RES, manufactured September 13, 2012, through April 30, 2013. The axles are mounted too far forward on the frame which may cause improper trailer balance while towing.
The risk
Improper trailer balance may lead to uncontrollable trailer sway, increasing the risk of a crash, property damage, and/or personal injury.
The fix
Heartland will notify owners and the trailers will be returned to the factory where axles will be moved rearward, free of charge. The recall began on May 20, 2013. Owners may contact Heartland Recreational Trailers' Warranty/Service Department by email at "[email protected]," or by phone at 1-877-262-8032. Heartland's recall campaign number is 99-01-12.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is my vehicle affected?

Being on this list means your year, make and model fall inside campaign 13V186000. It does not mean your individual vehicle does: a campaign covers a range of VINs built in a specific window, and vehicles either side of that window are untouched.

Check the 17-character VIN from the driver-side dashboard or door jamb against NHTSA's lookup. If it is covered, the dealer must do the work free of charge, regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage.
