Filed by Newmar Corporation.
NHTSA campaign 16V744000 covers 6 vehicles and concerns the equipment adaptive/mobility. The repair is free.
What this recall covers
- The defect
- Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2017 Canyon Star motor homes manufactured September 7, 2011, to September 6, 2016 and equipped with wheelchair lifts. Incorrect bolts may have been used to install the wheelchair lift base. These bolts may unexpectedly break allowing the lift to move. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 404, "Platform Lift Installations."
- The risk
- Unintentional movement of the wheelchair lift can cause injury to the lift occupant and/or the lift operator.
- The fix
- Newmar will notify owners, and Newmar service facilities will replace the wheelchair lift base mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2016. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is my vehicle affected?
Being on this list means your year, make and model fall inside campaign 16V744000. It does not mean your individual vehicle does: a campaign covers a range of VINs built in a specific window, and vehicles either side of that window are untouched.
Check the 17-character VIN from the driver-side dashboard or door jamb against NHTSA's lookup. If it is covered, the dealer must do the work free of charge, regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage.
