NHTSA Campaign 15V642000
PARKING BRAKE
Filed by Newmar Corporation.
NHTSA campaign 15V642000 covers 2 vehicles and concerns the parking brake. The repair is free.
What this recall covers
- The defect
- Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2016 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport and Canyon Star motorhomes manufactured July 8, 2015, to September 14, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the parking brake actuator may be out of calibration causing the parking brake system to not properly hold the vehicle even with the parking brake pedal fully depressed. Additionally, the parking brake may not disengage completely when the parking brake pedal is released.
- The risk
- If the parking brake does not fully engage, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of personal injury or a crash. A parking brake that drags may result in a wheel end fire.
- The fix
- Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake foot pedal assembly, free of charge. The recall began on October 22, 2015. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is my vehicle affected?
Being on this list means your year, make and model fall inside campaign 15V642000. It does not mean your individual vehicle does: a campaign covers a range of VINs built in a specific window, and vehicles either side of that window are untouched.
Check the 17-character VIN from the driver-side dashboard or door jamb against NHTSA's lookup. If it is covered, the dealer must do the work free of charge, regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage.
