What this recall covers
- The defect
- Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2014 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycles manufactured August 1, 2014, to September 1, 2014. The front and rear wheels of the affected motorcycles may have been manufactured with insufficient hardness.
- The risk
- If the wheels have insufficient hardness, the wheels may loosen and/or air may leak from around the tire bead. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
- The fix
- Yamaha has notified owners, and dealers will replace the front and rear wheel and tire assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on October 30, 2014. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990088.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is my vehicle affected?
Being on this list means your year, make and model fall inside campaign 14V644000. It does not mean your individual vehicle does: a campaign covers a range of VINs built in a specific window, and vehicles either side of that window are untouched.
Check the 17-character VIN from the driver-side dashboard or door jamb against NHTSA's lookup. If it is covered, the dealer must do the work free of charge, regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage.
