ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
NHTSA 17V700000- The defect
- Triumph Motorcycles America, LTD (Triumph) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Speed Triple R and Speed Triple S motorcycles. A wire for the charging system may rub against a bracket for the ABS modulator, potentially resulting in an electrical short.
- The risk
- An electrical short could cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- The fix
- Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected wire, rerouting it to avoid contact with the bracket, free of charge. The recall began on December 14, 2017. Owners may contact Triumph customer service at 1-678-854-2010. Triumph's number for this recall is SB552.

Checking your own motorcycle
A recall applies to a range of VINs, not to every 2016 Triumph Speed Triple R built. To confirm whether yours is affected, find the 17-character VIN, stamped on the steering head, just behind the headlight, and on the frame label, and enter it in NHTSA's official lookup.
Repairs for safety recalls are free and never expire. A dealer cannot charge you, and cannot refuse on the grounds that the motorcycle is old or out of warranty. If one does, call the NHTSA hotline on 1-888-327-4236.
